The National Health Insurance Company – Daman, the leading health insurance company in the region, has confirmed that it has successfully renewed over 40% of its Thiqa members' policies for the year 2010.
Thiqa, the health insurance scheme for UAE Nationals, was launched in 2008 by the Health Authority- Abu Dhabi (HAAD), and was assigned to Daman to manage. Since its launch, Daman has successfully enrolled over 580,000 UAE Nationals.
Daman began contacting Thiqa members in May 2010 for renewal before the actual date of expiry on the card to ensure continuity of medical coverage with no interruption. Since then, Daman has renewed an average of 2000 policies per day for over 252,000 Thiqa members, free of charge, which constitutes over 40% of the total 580,000 Thiqa members currently insured with Daman.

Renewed Thiqa cards are automatically dispatched via courier before the expiry of the old card. Mr. Ahmed Al Neyadi, Thiqa Director, stressed on the necessity of keeping the old card and using it until it actually expires. "Renewed cards will be only recognized by healthcare providers' systems starting from the effective date mentioned on the face of the card; healthcare provider might reject it if used before the effective date."
Thiqa members will receive their new insurance cards via Empost or Aramex within five days of completing the necessary renewal requirements.

– Al Ain: Thiqa main branch located on Aoud Al Tawba street or service points located in Tawam hospital, Al Ain hospital, Al-Hayar Municipality and Oasis hospital.
– Western Region: Thiqa service points located in western regoin hospitals (Madinat Zayed, Liwa, Al-Merfa, Ghayathi, Al-Sela, and Delma Island hospitals)
