Over 20 Iraqis, 10 US troops killed

A truck bomb went off Sunday near a hospital south of Baghdad, killing at least 15 people, the Iraqi military said. The truck, loaded with explosives, was parked near Mahmoudiyah General Hospital, an Iraqi army officer said.

 

According to the AP, 25 people were also injured, and the death toll was expected to rise, he said. Mahmoudiyah lies about 20 miles south of Baghdad.

 

In Baghdad on Sunday another six Iraqis were killed, including five people in a car bombing in Al-Alam, a mixed Shiite-Sunni district that has been rife with sectarian conflict.

 

The U.S. military announced the weekend deaths of 10 American soldiers, including six killed on Sunday. Four US troops died in a blast near their vehicle in Diyala province, the U.S. military said Sunday.  The soldiers, all assigned to Task Force Lightning, died Saturday, the military said in a statement.

 

Another soldier was also injured in this attack, and evacuated to a U.S. military hospital, it said.

 

On Sunday, three soldiers killed by a roadside bomb while patrolling south of Baghdad; one killed in an attack south of the capital; and two who died of combat wounds sustained north of the capital, in Diyala and Salahuddin provinces.
