ALBAWABA - The Ukrainian military said on Monday that Russian missiles halted down on the Ukrainian port of Odesa overnight, resulting in injuring one woman and causing severe damage to the port.
The south command of Ukraine's armed forces said on Telegram: "The seaport in Odesa suffered significant damage, a fire broke out in the port's hotel, which has not been functioning for several years,".
Ukraine's Air Force stated its air defense systems destroyed 19 Iranian-made Shahed drones, 11 cruise missiles, and two hypersonic missiles launched by Russia overnight, the vast majority of which were aimed towards Odesa.
Ukrainian Southern Military command spokeswoman, Nataliya Gumenyuk, said on Telegram: "Russia was apparently trying to test out the density of the air defense".
"They understand that port infrastructure is a priority for our region and that it is reliably protected. However, that is why the attack that occurred tonight was both massive and by combined means," Gumenyuk added.
The Ukrainian Southern Military said that Onyx missiles destroyed granaries, but "people were not hurt,". They also added that as a result of falling debris, warehouses and a private house in the Odesa suburbs were damaged and caught fire.
Odesa regional governor Oleg Kiper said on Telegram that one woman in Odesa, a civilian, was injured by shrapnel "in a blast wave" and was being treated in hospital, AFP reported.
Oleksandr Vilkul, mayor of the southern Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, said one Russian drone had been shot down and falling debris caused a fire at an industrial enterprise, which had since been extinguished, Reuters reported.
Russia has increased attacks on Ukraine's grain-exporting infrastructure in the southern Odesa and Mykolaiv areas since July when Moscow pulled out of a UN-brokered arrangement permitting secure grain shipments via the Black Sea.
