One person has been killed and another 28 wounded during rioting, which took place over the weekend in parts of eastern and southwestern Algeria, according to local media reports Tuesday.
One protestor was killed and 20 injured on Sunday at Diar Ezzitoune, near Skikda, around 500 kilometers east of Algiers, when village residents, demanding government aid to repair houses damaged by rains, clashed with police officials.
The protestors blocked the road leading to nearby cities and then attacked public administrative buildings, also sacking three schools and several stores, Algerian papers reported, cited by AFP.
Meanwhile, in the town of Mekmen Ban Amar, near Naama, an estimated 750 kilometers to the southwest of the capital, another eight were injured when residents attempted to sack city hall to protest the appointment of the local mayor. (Albawaba.com)
