Last Thursday Omran, the Government of Oman’s tourism development and investment arm, came together with the residents of Musannah to host the third community day at the Wudam Al Sahil Youth Stadium. The event, which included activities and games for all the family, gave residents the chance to meet officials from the neighbouring Sports City, the site for the 2nd Asian Beach Games project to find out more about how the development will benefit their community.
The company hopes to raise awareness of Omran and its activities in developing the Sports City, as well as taking the opportunity to hear from the residents about their expectations on the benefits that the project will bring in to their communities.
A number of activities were organised by Omran on the day including, a live traditional band, special volleyball match with Omran staff and Musannah residents, a children’s area with face-painting and bouncy castle and ‘Women’s Corner’ selling traditional Omani handicrafts and food.
Commenting about the event, Eng Wael Al-Lawati, CEO of Omran, said:
“With so much happening at the 2nd Asian Beach Games site in Mussanah this year, it is important to keep the local community informed. We are always considerate of those people neighbouring our developments and their support is essential for the success of the site.
“With the 2nd Asian Beach Games just around the corner, it is a very exciting time for Oman and we want to share with the community the feeling of pride we have in being involved in such a significant project.”
Eng. Nasser Saif Al-Maqbali, Vice President of Construction at Omran, said:
“With only a few months left to go until the 2nd Asian Beach Games this is a crucial time for Omran. It is important for us to work with all of our partners, including the residents of Musannah, to ensure the successful delivery of the project, which will become an important landmark for tourism in Oman.
“Work is progressing on schedule for delivery in November and we will soon be increasing activity on the site even further.”
The site at Musannah is now more than 77 per cent complete and on track for delivery ahead of the 2nd Asian Beach Games in December. The project has seen a remarkable achievement by completing more than eight million man hours without lost time injury (LTI).
When complete, the site will feature world-class sporting facilities, a four star hotel and meeting and conference facilities, which will act as a magnet for future luxury developments. Following the Games, the site will be further developed into a sports-themed residential and commercial development, with the aim of providing new facilities and accommodation for the whole community of Musannah.
The Asian Beach Games were established by the Olympic Council of Asia and are held every two years. The 2010 Muscat Asian Beach Games will be the second event, following the inaugural Games in Bali in 2008. The overarching aim is to strengthen relations and understanding between participating Asian nations in a friendly competitive environment.
