Omani Authorities Awarded for Combating Software Piracy

The Business Software Alliance (BSA) presented Tuesday two awards to the Omani Ministry of National Heritage and Culture and the Royal Oman Police (ROP). 

The BSA’s regional director, Jawad Al-Redha presented Khaled Bin Salem Al-Ghassani, general manager of culture at the Omani Ministry of Heritage and Culture and Colonel Mohsen Bin Alwi Al-Hafiz, director of information technology at the Royal Oman Police with symbolic awards, to mark the software industry’s gratitude for the support that it has received in Oman. 

According to a press release, the first award was presented at the offices of the Directorate of Culture in the Ministry National Heritage and Culture, after which Al-Redha moved to ROP’s directorate of IT to meet with Colonel Al-Hafiz. "We want to express our admiration for the work achieved by the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture and the Royal Omani Police" said Jawad Al-Redha, the BSA’s regional director. 

"This is great team work, we have rarely seen such drive in implementing the copyright law, and we thank every person who has contributed this remarkable effort". 

A study conducted by the BSA showed that the rate of use and sale of illegal software in the Sultanate dropped of an impressive 10 percent, from 88 percent in 1999 to 78 percent in 2000 – Albawaba.com
