Three adults and three children were found murdered in a rural region of Algeria, officials said Saturday, blaming the killings on Islamic extremists.

The killings occurred Thursday and Friday in the same region where, according to a newspaper report, three shepherds were found with their throats cut.

According to officials, the six killings took place Thursday and Friday at Sidi Baizid in the Djelfa region, around 270 kilometers south of Algiers, AFP said.

Two of the adults killed were members of a civil defense force established to guard villages against Islamic activists, they said. (Albawaba.com)
