Iran will hold its sixth regular meeting with the European Union in February after Tehran cancelled last month's talks with host country France over a protocol row, officials said Saturday.

The meeting will be held either in Tehran or in Sweden, which currently holds the EU's rotating presidency, Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Ahani said, cited by state radio.

The talks will address investments, immigration, energy and the fight against the drugs trade, he said.

Iran holds semi-annual meetings with the EU presidency and European Commission officials to exchange views on bilateral and international matters.

Tehran called off December's gathering with France, which then held the EU presidency, after Paris opted to send only what Iran called "a senior civil servant."

Tehran had named its deputy minister for European affairs, and complained that Paris' representation was not senior enough, despite French claims to the contrary.

Iran charged that Paris had reduced the level of its representation despite a previous agreement to hold the meetings at a ministerial level -- TEHRAN (AFP)
