A tourism top official in Dubai has said that the emirate is still seen by tourists as a “safe destination,” despite global developments that have tarnished the image of Arab countries as safe and hopsitable places.
Commenting on the arrival of the American cruise liner 'Silver Shadow' in Dubai at the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing's (DTCM) Cruise Terminal with European and American passengers on board, DTCM director general Khalid A. bin Sulayem said, “"Silver Shadow's arrival confirms that Dubai is regarded as safe by the American and European visitors."
"This cruise call marks the beginning of the winter cruise program in Dubai with 11 more scheduled cruise calls by major liners before the end of the year.
"Recent reports released by most cruise lines confirm that ships are continuing to get high 90 percent occupancy."
The luxury liner berthed at the DTCM Cruise Terminal for a passenger exchange with a few passengers disembarking, 100 embarking and 150 in transit, said a press release by the department.
A total of 36 cruise liners have docked in Dubai out of the planned 39 calls, with over 15,000 passengers in the year 2000 – Albawaba.com
