On Wednesday, President Barack Obama will go before the United Nation's (UN) General Assembly to make his case for a wide ranging coalition in the war against the Islamic State -- also known as ISIS or ISIL.
His speech to the UN comes just a day after the U.S. and its allies launched airstrikes inside of Syria for the first time.
In addition to his speech to the General Assembly, the president will also meet with world leaders at the U.N.
During those meetings Obama will try to nail down specific promises from each country, be they military, financial or humanitarian.
The president will also chair a meeting of the Security Council. That is when he will try to pass a binding resolution. That resolution will make country prosecute its citizens who go to the Middle East to fight for IS. It will also strengthen sharing of intelligence information between national law enforcement agencies.
