Militants associated with al-Qaeda stormed a government building in Idlib Monday, Reuters reports. The militants set up a new front in the city that has been under the control of Assad’s forces for more than a year.
Nusra Front infiltrated Idlib at dawn and killed dozens in the attack, according to Reuters. The group has made gains in southwest and northwest Syria in recent months.
The Assad regime continues to battle multiple insurgent groups since a civil war began in 2011.
