A nuclear-powered US Navy submarine collided on Monday with a Turkish cargo ship in the Arabian Gulf of the coast of Bahrain. The incident marks the second collision of a US Navy craft with a civilian vessel in the Arabian Gulf in 14 months.
Both ships suffered only minor damage, and no one was reported hurt, according to the AP. The collision occurred northeast of Bahrain, according to a US Navy official.
The submarine was part of a US fleet conducting what the US spokesperson called "maritime security operations" in the Arabian Gulf. Such operations, he said, are to prevent the smuggling of weapons and drugs and movement of "terrorists".
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
