In a new assessment of Tehran's enrichment program issued Thursday, U.S.-based anti-proliferation group warn of a "breakout time". The warning comes amid renewed talks between Iran and world powers who want Iran to curb its nuclear activities.
The report reveals Iran could produce sufficient quantity of weapons-grade uranium production to build a bomb within a month.
"Shortening breakout times have implications for any negotiation with Iran. An essential finding is that they are currently too short and shortening further, based on the current trend of centrifuge deployments", states the report, adding that shortening the breakout time should be the main concern of the current negotiations.
In the meanwhile, congress is considering legislation that could tighten sanctions on Iran.
A new round of negotiations between senior officials from both sides is schedualed to take place in Geneva next month.
"We will pursue a diplomatic initiative with eyes wide open, aware it will be vital for Iran to live up to those standards other nations that have nuclear programs live up to as they prove those programs are indeed peaceful," Kerry said in Rome during a meeting Wednesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On Thursday a lawmaker was quoted as saying Iran has temporarily halted 20 percent uranium enrichment.
