ALBAWABA - Norway’s ambassador to Jordan and Iraq, Mona Juul, has resigned after her name appeared in recently published documents relating to American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Epstein was a known billionaire who died in jail while awaiting trial on charges of sexually abusing minors and running a prostitution ring.
A statement issued by the Norwegian Foreign Ministry on Sunday explained that Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stated that Juul, whose relationship with Epstein was revealed, had resigned from her position as ambassador.
The ministry had earlier suspended the Norwegian diplomat from her position as ambassador to Jordan and Iraq. Juul's husband, Terje Roed-Larsen, 78, who served as a cabinet minister in 1996, is also mentioned in the Epstein files.
The minister added, "This is the right and necessary decision. It was taken after consultation with the Foreign Office. Her relationship with the sex offender Epstein demonstrated Yule's serious lack of sound judgment, which makes it difficult to re-establish the trust required for this position."
Besides Juul and Roed-Larsen, several other Norwegians had links to the American sex offender, including Crown Princess Mette-Marit.

In addition, the U.K.'s envoy to the U.S., Peter Mandelson, was dismissed in September after his links to Epstein became public, with documents released on January 30 revealing further details of their association.
Moreover, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's Chief of Staff, Morgan McSweeney, resigned, saying he took "full responsibility" for advising Starmer to appoint Peter Mandelson as the UK's envoy to the U.S.
