A volley of Katyusha rockets struck Haifa, Tiberias, Safed and other Israeli towns on Monday afternoon, hours after six people were lightly wounded as rockets hit communities across the Galilee.
The rockets also hit the southern Golan Heights for the first time. Rockets landed earlier Monday in Kiryat Shmona, Acre, Tiberias, Talal, Julis, Abu Snan, Kafr Yassif and other towns across the north.
Earlier Monday morning, 13 Israeli soldiers were hospitalized in Nahariya suffering smoke inhalation from a rocket landing. A barrage of rockets landed in the Jezreel Valley in lower Galilee for the first time late Sunday. They landed in the city of Afula and the surrounding communities of Upper Nazareth, Migdal Ha'emek and Givat Ela just before midnight, Haaretz reported. There were no reports of injuries.
Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz said Monday that Israel aims at creating a buffer zone in south Lebanon, from where Hizbullah has been pounding Israel with rockets for the past six days. "One of the aims of the [military] operation is to establish a security area in Lebanon, without the presence of Israeli soldiers," Peretz said.
