ALBAWABA - According to reports from South Korea, North Korea has resumed its practice of crossing the border using balloons that are said to be loaded with rubbish.
According to Yonhap, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea confirmed that balloons believed to be transporting waste items were launched from North Korea.
It is anticipated that these balloons would float toward the northern part of Gyeonggi Province, which encircles Seoul, the capital of South Korea. The public has been encouraged by the JCS to report any sightings to local authorities right away and to avoid handling the balloons.
Growing Tensions and "Trash Balloons"
Large balloons filled with propaganda pamphlets critical of the North Korean dictatorship were previously sent into the country by North Korean defectors and activists in South Korea.
Starting in late May, North Korea started to retaliate by launching over 3,000 balloons into South Korea that were loaded with rubbish.
Tensions between the two countries have increased as a result of this balloon exchange. In an attempt to justify its activities, North Korea has used "freedom of expression," a claim that South Korea has harshly rejected.
