The Afghan rebel forces said Sunday they have captures four provinces in the north east of the country and moved ahead for 140 km towards the capital, Kabul.
Spokesman for the North Alliance, Ashraf Nadeem, told Al Jazeera satellite channel that the forces are heading towards the capital, but other sources said Kabul would not be seized until the opposition agree on a political plan for the new government in the country.
For their part, the ruling Taliban militia told Reuters on the day that the withdrawal from the areas was “tactical.”
An analyst told Al Jazeera that it’s not clear whether the Taliban forces would resort to guerilla war, because they waited for too long trying to defend their positions in Mazar-i-Sharif and the northern provinces, which they should have abandoned before US airstrikes destroyed them.
Meanwhile, AFP reported that 10 big explosions rocked Kabul on Sunday as US warplanes resumed pre-dawn attacks on Taliban targets around the Afghan capital, residents said.
All of the bombs were thought to have fallen within the city limits.
Abdul Henan Hemat, head of the Taliban's Bakhter information agency, told AFP that a marble factory in the east of the city was hit and "completely destroyed."
Hemat said he had no details of any casualties.
Al Jazeera put the death toll at 270, saying that two villages were completely erased.
Six explosions were heard around 4:00 am (2330 GMT Saturday) and four more followed 15 minutes later – Albawaba.com
