NATO and Macedonian officials had still not reached an agreement on Saturday on the number of weapons ethnic Albanian rebels should hand over, NATO spokesman Major Barry Johnson said.
Johnson said Skopje had demanded a request for clarity in how the arms should be counted and that, after a night of talks, the parties were still discussing the methodology to be used in reaching an acceptable figure.
Western defense sources said on Friday that NATO's Task Force Harvest would collect around 3,300 weapons from the so-called National Liberation Army (NLA) guerrillas over a period of 30 days.
On Thursday, the Macedonian government had said it believed the rebel National Liberation Army (NLA) was holding at least 60,000 various weapons.
NATO officials insisted this was exaggerated and Johnson was optimistic that an agreement would be reached.
"At this time there is no sign it will lead to a major breakdown," he said.
He added that talks would continue and that he hoped an announcement would be made later on Saturday -- SKOPJE (AFP)
