ALBAWABA - Ousted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was seen leaving the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to attend his first trial at a New York City court today, Fox News reported Monday.
Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured by the U.S. military in a strike on the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, on Saturday.
Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores are facing drug and weapons charges.
President Donald Trump said the U.S. is "in charge" of Venezuela, as acting president Delcy Rodríguez urged for "cooperation" with Washington after the capture of Maduro.
On Jan. 3, the fate of Maduro was unknown until President Trump shared the first photo of the leftist president seen handcuffed, dressed in grey sweatpants and wearing blackout goggles as he was being transferred to New York, the U.S.
Trump said Venezuela's left-wing leader and his wife were held in a military operation carried out in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement.
He added that Maduro will stand on trial in New York on charges of drug and weapons offences.
