Nexus financial advisers and staff battled it out on the cricket field earlier this month to raise much-needed funds for the people of Haiti, who are still struggling to cope in the aftermath of January’s devastating earthquake.
The cricket match – a contest between the Nexus Reds and the Nexus Blues – saw players donating money in line with their batting and fielding scores, raising a total of AED 882. The players’ money raising efforts were more than matched by Nexus as a company, making a total of AED 2,000 which will be sent to the Haiti Relief Fund.
Announcing the total sum after the staff-run event on February 10, owner and CEO of Nexus, Mahmoud Nodjoumi, said: “The suffering of the people in Haiti has been on everyone’s minds in the past few weeks, and so it was with tremendous enthusiasm that our Nexus colleagues and their families came out and supported this charity event.”
“The money raised will be sent directly to the Haiti Relief Fund, and we trust that it will go some way to helping alleviate the problems that the Haitian people are continuing to endure. I would like thank all those at Nexus for taking part in this important charity event and donating so generously,” Nodjoumi added.
The tightly fought cricket match saw the Nexus Blues secure victory with 214 runs in the allotted 20 overs to the Nexus Reds’ score of 182-4.
Despite losing the match, captain of the Nexus Reds, Fazal Mahmood, said all the players were pleased to have taken part in such a noble cause: “It’s a really good initiative, and I’m really glad that we’re doing something for those poor souls in Haiti.”
