new gac india logistics service for kakinada offshore industry

Global logistics, shipping, marine and related services provider GAC today announced the launch of a new service for the offshore industry in India with the opening of an offshore logistics support facility at Kakinada, India.

With increasing oil and gas exploration ongoing, power projects, fertilizer companies and a host of industries moving in, Kakinada is emerging as a hub for oil and gas exploration, as well as related services companies, and GAC India is ready to meet for the present and future needs of the industry.

The new offshore logistics support facility makes it the area’s first and only provider of neutral services for the offshore and related activities of world class oil and gas contractors in and around the Kakinada, Yanam and West Godavari districts.

Service package
Strategically located just 1.5 km away from Kakinada port and jetty, the 10,000 square metre base provides storage and stacking space for drill rigs, platform supply vessel related equipments and materials. It also has its own storage areas, maintenance workshops, and secured warehouse.

GAC’s offshore logistics support is designed as a total service package consisting of initial documentation to facilitate the imports of specialised equipments like rigs, platform support vessels and auxiliary support vessels, as well as consignments like drilling equipment, rig testing equipment, rig service equipments, ship spares and more. With this in mind, the company has put in place its own Customs House Agents (CHA) licenses and experienced staff to offer all services “in-house”.

Paul Haegeman, GAC India’s Managing Director, says: “Both locally and worldwide, the GAC Group combines its experience and expertise in ship agency, logistics and marine support to provide the best skills, knowledge and tools to meet the complex and stringent standards of the oil and gas industry worldwide.

“As a major agency for many of the oil and gas companies, GAC India is now placed to give our clients the best in offshore logistics support.”

Long-term commitment
The new offshore logistics service and facility is overseen by Commander (Retd). C.V. Rajeswara Rao, Kakinada Branch Manager.

He says: “Offshore services is a highly specialised area of operations that require us to meet our clients’ needs on a daily basis, unlike traditional shipping agency, where a client may need the services of an agent for just a few days in port.

“Offshore operations require a long-term commitment. Building a strong and close agent-client relationship is especially important in the oil and gas industries where the exploration and development activities can last from one to three years and more.”
