New film on Si Mohand u M'hand'

"The sage of Si Mohand u M'hand", a film by Lyazidd Khodja and Rachid Ben Allal, is being shown on the Cinémathèque of Algeria. It will run till February 10. The film, an Algerian-French-Moroccan production, tells the story of Si Mohand u M'hand, an Algerian poet who grew up on the background of the French occupation of Algeria. He was born at about 1845 in the Larbaâ Nath Irathen region and died in 1906.

In 1871, after the insurrection against the French broke out, he was torn up from his family and he started his life of wondering and artistic creating. His father was executed by the French.

Si Mohand u M'hand is played in the first part of the movie by Fodhil Hamla  and then by Dahmane Aïdrons.
