Britain's new ambassador to Iran, Richard Dalton, is to take up his post on Sunday, ending a diplomatic stand-off of several months which broke out when the Islamic republic refused to accept another nominee, the British embassy said.
Dalton, a Middle East expert and former consul general in Israel has been the country's ambassador to Tripoli since December 1999. He takes over in Iran from Nick Brown, who left the country in December 2001, the embassy said on Saturday, cited by AFP.
Tehran had refused in February to approve the appointment of David Reddaway, souring ties between the two countries.
No reason was provided for the veto, but press reports accused Reddaway of being "a hostile Zionist to Iran." (Albawaba.com)
