Two American soldiers were killed and another wounded early Sunday when their convoy came under rocket-propelled grenade and small arms fire in northern Iraq, the U.S. military said.
All three soldiers were rushed to a nearby military hospital, where two of them died, said Corp. Todd Pruden, a spokesman for the military in Baghdad, AP reported.
The attack took place near Tal Afar, just west of the northern city of Mosul, Pruden said.
Elsewhere, an Iraqi driver was killed and at least one person believed to be an aid worker was injured when their United Nations (UN) convoy was attacked in Iraq, UN and US military officials said.
"At about 11:00 am (0700 GMT) this morning around 50 kilometres south of Baghdad a UN convoy was ambushed. One person was killed. He was an Iraqi national," military spokesman Colonel Guy Shields said, according to AFP.
"At least one person was injured," he added. "They were attacked by small arms fire..."
The three were from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the World Health Organization (WHO), according to a UN official. (Albawaba.com)
