ALBAWABA- U.S. President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met at the White House today. Netanyahu expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Biden during the meeting on major issues in the coming months.
This meeting follows Netanyahu's recent and controversial speech at the U.S. Congress in Capitol Hall, where he praised President Biden for being a proud Zionist.
In his speech, Netanyahu thanked Biden for "half a century of friendship" and emphasized the significance of the U.S.-Israel alliance.
"For the forces of civilization to triumph, America and Israel must stand together. When we stand together, something really great happens: we win, they lose," Netanyahu stated.
The speech, which was notably complimentary towards Biden, highlighted the president's unwavering support for Israel. This conciliatory tone was unexpected, given the anticipation that Netanyahu might criticize the Democratic president.
Meanwhile, thousands of protesters gathered outside the Capitol to rally against Israel’s war in Gaza and Netanyahu's visit. Over fifty congressional Democrats, including U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, boycotted the speech.
Tlaib, who held a sign in the House chamber reading “war criminal” and “guilty of genocide,” has been a vocal critic of Netanyahu and was criticized last year for her comments on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
