The chief of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hizbullah, Hassan Nasrallah, slammed on Monday the new coalition of the Syrian opposition, accusing it of having been created from scratch by the United States. "They met in Doha and were trapped in a hotel to form a new body and did what (Secretary of State Hillary) Clinton and America wanted," Nasrallah said. He made these comments during a speech of over an hour during a ceremony in Beirut.
"But more dangerous is that the opposition parties have unanimously decided in Doha to reject the dialogue and any political solution. That is to say they want to go to more destruction. And who benefits from this? Clinton, United States, Israel and some regional parties, "he said.
The chief of the powerful organization, which is a great ally of Damascus, has once again called on Syrian opposition to hold dialogue with President Bashar al-Assad, an option already rejected by opponents who pose as a sine qua non the departure of the head of State.
The Syrian opposition reached Monday an agreement to form a united coalition to present a credible alternative to the regime of Bashar al-Assad, after four days of meetings in Doha and intense international pressure.
Hizbullah, which dominates with its partners the Lebanese government is accused by opponents of President Assad of fighting along his loyalist forces in Syria.
In October, Mr. Nasrallah has finally acknowledged that members of his party fought rebels but as individuals.
