During his visit to Lebanon this week to discuss preparations for the Arab summit coming up in Beirut in March 2002, Arab League Secretary General Amr Mussa said that “Israel’s aggressive policy will cause a big fire in the Middle East”, reported the Tehran Times. Mussa was to meet with President Lahoud, Prime Minister Hariri, Parliament Speaker Berri and Foreign Minister Hammud.
In reply to questions asked whether Lebanon would oppose the presence of Libya at the upcoming summit, Mussa emphasized that nobody could oppose any Arab state from taking part in the summit. Lebanon has accused Kadhafi’s regime of being behind the disappearance of Imam Mussa Sadr, some 20 years ago during a trip to Libya.
Mussa also emphasized that the Israeli military occupation, which prevented Palestinian President Yasser Arafat from attending midnight Mass in Bethlehem is “obstructing a return to normal life for Palestinian people”.
