Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is still depressed and his health "deteriorated" in the prison where he has been held since his conviction to life imprisonment, reported Thursday the official MENA news agency. The former leader is suffering from "acute depression" and hypertension, said the agency.
His health "remains steady " and he wears an oxygen mask because he had troubles in breathing overnight, it said.
Mubarak "refuses to talk with doctors because of his severe depression, which complicates their work (...), and he exchanges a few words with his son Gamal," who was transferred to the same prison to be closer to him, the report added said.
Hosni Mubarak, 84, was sentenced to life in prison Saturday for his part in killing protesters against his regime last year.
One of his lawyers and a security official conveyed Tuesday that the health condition of Mubarak had deteriorated after his arrival at the Tora prison south of Cairo. No decision was taken on the transfer of Mubarak to a military hospital as requested by his family, said a security official.
