Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has sent US President George W. Bush a message on the "deteriorating situation in the Middle East," reported Al Ahram daily on Saturday.
Citing well-informed officials, Mubarak told Bush that “the peace process is collapsing because of Israel’s aggression against the Palestinians.”
Last month, Mubarak became the first Arab leader to hold talks with the new US president.
For his part, Bush on Friday called the latest rounds of killings in the Middle East "abhorrent," and urged an end to the cycle of violence in the region, said Reuters.
"The death in the Middle East is abhorrent, and our nation weeps when people lose their lives," Bush told a news conference.
"And what we must do is work hard to break the cycle of violence."
Bush said the ongoing bloodshed hampered peace efforts, but added that the United States would keep working.
"It's going to be very difficult for us to be able to bring people to the peace table so long as there is violence," he said. "And we'll continue to work to break the cycle of violence." – Albawaba.com
