Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak on Thursday dismissed reports that his son, Gamal, would succeed him as the nation's leader. Mubarak told state-run radio in an interview that Egypt is a republic "where there is no inheritance."

Mubarak has been widely reported to be grooming his son to succeed him. Gamal Mubarak heads the ruling National Democratic Party's policy-making committee.

"This is nonsense. Some people created this rumor and then believed it," he said in the interview.

Hinting to Syria, Mubarak added: "Even if that (a president being replaced by his son) happened in another country, it won't happen in Egypt." (Albawaba.com)
