Refuting speculations about his health, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday had a busy political day. In the morning he received Tony Blair, the envoy of the international Quartet on Mideast, at the northern Egyptian port city of Alexandria, the official MENA news agency reported.

The meeting between the two top officials focused on ways to push forward Middle East peace efforts, said the report.

Later, Mubarak also held meeting with visiting Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'alema at Ras el Tin Palace in Alexandria, during which they discussed the latest development in the Middle East.

At noon, Jordan's King Abdullah held talks with Mubarak on the latest Arab and regional developments, Petra news agency reported.

During the talks held in Alexandria, the two leaders "expressed hope that efforts exerted to achieve peace in the region will lead to concrete results, mainly with regard to bringing the Palestinians and Israelis back to the negotiating table," said the report.

The King and Mubarak said that the international peace meeting called for by the United States this fall, was a positive step to push the peace process forward. During a lunch banquet, the two leaders also stressed the importance of good preparations for the meeting to ensure its success.
