Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad reviewed in a telephone call on Tuesday the latest situation in the Middle East and the joint Egyptian-Jordanian peace initiative.
Al Ahram daily newspaper said that the two leaders discussed the joint Egyptian-Jordanian peace initiative aimed at putting an end to the escalation in the Palestinian territories and ways to spur renewed negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis.
Bilateral relations between the two counties were also discussed, said the paper.
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Amr Moussa visited Damascus late last month and delivered a message to Assad from Mubarak that dealt with the latter’s visit to Washington for talks with US President George W. Bush – Albawaba.com
