A mother of four, aged 34, who has been charged by a Dubai Public Prosecutor for kidnapping her son, aged 10, and attempting to smuggle him out of the country, was freed on bail Thursday morning, according to the British Embassy in Dubai.

The Dh20,000 bail as well as a guarantor's passport was deposited with police Wednesday by an unidentified person living in the United Arab Emirates, which allowed the accused mother and her accomplice, another British national, to be released from police custody pending trial, according to Khaleej Times.

The British mother of four faces a three-year prison sentence or a Dh10,000 fine, if convicted.

She was arrested while attempting to board a ship destined for Iraq, from where she had planned to continue on to Syria and afterwards to the United Kingdom.

The woman was involved in a custody battle with the child's father. Both the courts in the UK and the UAE awarded the child's custody to his father, a national of the United Arab Emirates. (Albawaba.com)
