Three people died and more than 20 were injured when a group of young extremists attacked stall-holders of Caucasian or foreign origin in a Moscow market, the Russian interior ministry said Monday.
Karam Dzhanmamedov, 18, who died of wounds to the head in a Moscow hospital Monday, was the third fatality in the attack carried out on Tuesday last week when around 300 extremists carrying iron bars descended on the market, the Interfax news agency reported.
An Azerbaijani died during the attack on the Tsaritsyno market in southern Moscow, and an Indian died the same day after his transfer to hospital. Those injured included Armenians, Indians and Afghans.
Police later arrested 25 people suspected of taking part in the attack.
The suspects said they had acted as a result of the euphoria felt after the local football team, Spartak Moscow, won the Russian league championship, by beating a team from Saint Petersburg. That match took place two days earlier.
Russian media said many of the attackers wore armbands indicating membership of the banned rightwing Russian National Unity party -- MOSCOW, (AFP)
