A civilian was killed and five others were injured due to a mortar attack that targeted hundreds of people in Mothabin town in Daraa province.

A source at Daraa governorate announced on Sunday that the militant organizations fired mortar shells on hundreds of people while they were gathering for a local reconciliation meeting in the town of Mothabin in the northern countryside of the province, killing a civilian and injuring 5 others, among them a child.

The source added that the injured were admitted to al-Sanamin Hospital.

Locals of the town said that attackers’ attempts to foil the reconciliation were doomed to failure, and locals showed determination to establish the reconciliation and restore stability to their town and the neighboring villages.

Daraa province witnessed, during the last few months, a number of local reconciliations after scores of gunmen had turned themselves in to authorities and handed over their weapons in order to have their situation settled.

In related news, a source at Hama Police Command announced that militant groups positioned in the northern countryside of Hama targeted Sheezer village with three rocket shells, injuring five people, one of whom is in a critical condition.

It added that material damage was caused to private and public properties in the place the rockets landed.

The source noted that militants also fired three rocket shells on al-Baath neighborhood at the western part of Hama city, leaving material damage only.
