A conference under the patronage of the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI and the minister of justice on the subject of “The penal code in Morocco: reality and perspectives.” The conference was held from December 9 to 11 at Meknes and in its closing session on Saturday night concluded a number of recommendations. In the past, such recommendations have become enacted into law.

Much of the discussion focused on human rights conventions, freedom of information and expression, the police, international conventions, medical law, the death penalty and fiscal fraud. One of the conventions discussed was the abolition of the death penalty. Moroccan legislators pointed that this has not been enforced since 1993 and has never been carried out against a child.
