A study by a women's rights group shows that some 242 Moroccan women out of every 10,000 die while delivering their babies due to poor medical care.
Najat Akhich, secretary general of the Moroccan Democratic League of Women’s Rights, attributed the high mother mortality rate to “weak equipment and low human skills.”
Akhich was quoted by the official Moroccan news agency, MAP, as saying that the shortage of hospitals, health centers and poor roads, together with the low number of midwives, were behind the problem.
The human rights activist called on Moroccan authorities to extend general social and health coverage to all social classes and regions, especially rural areas – Albawaba.com
