Representatives of several Moroccan NGOs, active in human rights, are currently staging in the Swiss city of Geneva a campaign to win international action in favor of the Moroccan nationals still jailed in the Algerian south-eastern desert of Tindouf, according to Maghreb Arabe Presse.

The NGOs group told a MAP bureau in Geneva that they want to shift to a higher speed in defending the rights to return the Moroccan nationals sequestered in Tindouf. The defense of the sequestered population should no longer be restricted to mere information and awareness campaigns, the activists expressed.

Today and thanks to the efforts made by government authorities and by civil society activists, international public opinion and the United Nations and world decision-making centers better know the situation of the sequestered population, they added, according to MAP.

“Consequently, we have to shift to a new stage of concrete action and no longer stick to information alone,” they said, adding pressure should be exerted on the United Nations and on other international decision-making centers to concretely act to put an end to the dismal situation of this sequestered population.
