Morocco's King Mohammed on Monday reaffirmed his support for the Palestinian cause in talks with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, the Maghrebe Arab Presse (MAP) news agency reported.
It said the king "expressed his profound concern and condemned the strategy of confrontation and repression of the Israeli government."
He also confirmed Morocco's willingness to do what it could to help end the "dramatic and deadly spiral" of violence currently gripping the Middle East and to "reinforce the peace process in the region."
Arafat, on a one-day visit to Morocco, briefed the king on the latest situation in the Middle East, the agency said, cited by AFP.
Arafat stressed the importance of sending international monitors to the Occupied Territories, and of implementing the Mitchell report recommendations to “protect our people from the Israeli aggression,” the Palestinian news agency, WAFA, quoted him as saying.
The Palestinian president has met a number of Arab leaders in recent weeks to seek support for the Palestinian cause and, if possible, to hold an Arab summit on the 10-month-old uprising against 34 years of Israeli occupation.
