The Moroccan highway authority (ADM) is projecting to invest in 2001 1.23 billion DH ($ 112.6 million), including 92 percent to carry on works and start construction of new highways, Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP) reported Wednesday.
Over 4 percent of the ADM investments for 2001 will go to repair works of existing highways and improvement of rest areas, said the agency.
Citing a statement of the equipment ministry, MAP said, the traffic on pay-highways increased by 21 percent between January and September 2000 compared to the same period of 1999.
In the same period, receipts worth 269 million DH ($ 24.4 million) grew by 24 percent, while the number of accidents on highways decreased by 17 to 43 percent. The state-owned ADM also expects turnover to reach million 420DH ($ 38.18 million) by the end of 2001 -- Albawaba.com
