The Moroccan government has renewed its pledge to build a modern and democratic society, in accordance with King Mohammed's guidelines, reported the official Maghrebe Arab Presse (MAP).

The government has started working on outstanding projects, including the working out of a suitable framework for the effective practice of individual and public freedoms to help in the emergence of a politically "qualified" Moroccan society, said Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi at a government council he chaired in Rabat.

The emergence of such a society proceeds through the holding of free and honest elections based on a democratic representation of the political forces, Youssoufi said.

"This requires reforms of the electoral code," said the prime minister.

He announced in this respect that a draft law amending the electoral code would be submitted shortly to the government council - Albawaba.com
