Dubai Municipality has revised its list of allowed food colours, banning the use of 10 colours, including an intense sweetener. According to Khaleej Times, this has brought the number of artificial food colours permitted by the civic body to just 29.

"We keep updating the list of banned food colours on the basis of lab tests and scientific reports. Our aim is to ensure minimum use of artificial food colours considering the health risks," said Khalid Sharif Al Awadi, Assistant Director of Public Health Department and Head of Food Control Section at the Dubai Municipality. The municipality has approved the use of 45 preservatives, 16 antioxidants and 10 non-nutritive sweeteners. These are in addition to 130-odd other permitted food additives. (Albawaba.com)
