More than 3,300 Syrians have fled fighting between Daesh (ISIS) militants and Kurdish forces in the past two days near the Turkish border in the Tel Abyad region, Associated Press reported Thursday.

A Turkish official told AP the displaced refugees entered Turkey at the Akcakale border crossing after the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) closed in on Daesh in the Tel Abyad region. The official also said there was a US-led coalition airstrike in the area.

Kurdish fighters, Western-backed and allies of the Free Syrian Army, have been capturing towns and villages in Syria's northeast.

Tel Abyad is a target for the rebels because of its key location near the Turkish border and Daesh-controlled Raqqa
