Moratinos to Meet Syrian President, FM

European Union Mideast peace envoy, Miguel Moratinos is scheduled to hold talks in Damascus on Monday with Syrian foreign minister, Farouk al-Shara over the recent escalating developments in the Palestinian territories. Moratinos arrived in the Syrian capital on Sunday.  

 

Moratinos is due to hold talks also with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad regarding the serious conditions in the Palestinian lands and the efforts exerted to halt the escalation and resume the peace negotiations, according to KUNA. 

 

The European official will also discuss with the Syrian officials Saudi crown prince Abdullah’s initiative to impose peace in the Middle East. He said that it comes at an appropriate time and should be adopted by the upcoming Arab summit in Beirut. 

 

The talks Moratinos will hold with the Syrian leadership are also to ensure that Europe plays a more active role to revive the peace process and halt the war against the Palestinians.  

 

Moratinos had held last Friday discussions in Beirut with officials over the recent developments in the region. (Albawaba.com)
