A member of ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi's legal team on Wednesday said the former leader spoke to his family for the first time since his removal from office last week.
Lawyer Mostafa Atteyah told the Associated Press Wednesday that Morsi telephoned his wife and children last week and again two days later.
The 62 year-old Morsi is in good health, his lawyer told AP.
Morsi has been held in an undisclosed location by the military since he was removed from office July 3, following days of mass protests demanding his ousting. He has not been seen in public since.
The only people to have visited Morsi during his lock-up are European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and an African union delegation, AP reported.
Morsi faces trial for inciting violence against protesters, but as of yet, no date has been set for his trial, AP reported.
