The planned 46km causeway linking Bahrain and Qatar will be the longest in the world, said Qatari Minister of Municipality Affairs and Agriculture Ali Mohammed Al Khater on Sunday.
The minister said he hoped the causeway would eventually be entered in the Guinness Book of World Records, the Gulf Daily News quoted him as saying.
The longest existing causeway is 38km, he said.
Al Khater said civil engineering studies would be ready by June 2002 and tenders would be invited immediately afterwards.
Initial estimated costs would be known by mid-October or November, he added – Albawaba.com
