Millions of demonstrators chanting "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" flooded streets throughout Iran on Friday to show their support for the Palestinian Intifada and outrage at the "Zionist Israeli atrocities," reported the official Iranian news agency, IRNA, on Saturday.

Women, senior citizens and young children joined the demonstrations.

In the capital Tehran, tens of thousands braved the scorching heat and jostled down main avenues, some of them carrying posters of the founder of the Islamic revolution, Imam Khomeini, and the current supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, said the agency.

Several youngsters wearing headbands reading "Al Quds Is Ours" walked in front of the marchers, while some of them brandished the Palestinian flag.

"This demonstration, beside being a sign of solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people, is vital for [reining in] the usurper regime of the Israel and the governments which support it," one demonstrator, Rasoul Mohammad, told IRNA.

Iran's Parliamentary Speaker Mehdi Karroubi, who was among the participants, called on Muslims around the world "to take a concerted stance" against the Israeli regime in its massacre of innocent Palestinians.”

"Palestinians should feel ensured they have not been left alone and that their voices are heard around the world," he said.

Tehran does not recognize Israel and has expressed support for the latest Palestinian uprising against 34 years of military occupation by the Jewish state – Albawaba.com
