ALBAWABA- Millions of Muslim pilgrims gathered on the sacred Plains of Arafat in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday for the most significant ritual of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, marking the spiritual climax of Hajj 2026.

Saudi authorities said more than 1.5 million international pilgrims had arrived for this year’s pilgrimage, with the total number of worshippers, including domestic pilgrims, exceeding two million at Arafat. Pilgrims from across the world converged on the holy site near Mount Mercy, or Jabal al-Rahmah, in a powerful display of unity, faith, and devotion.

The Day of Arafat, observed on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, is considered the central pillar of Hajj. From noon until sunset, pilgrims stand in prayer and supplication, seeking forgiveness, mercy, and spiritual renewal. Many pilgrims traveled to Arafat from Mina in the early hours of the morning, dressed in simple white ihram garments symbolizing equality and humility before God.

The day’s rituals began with the traditional Arafat sermon, delivered near the site where Prophet Muhammad delivered his farewell sermon. Pilgrims later performed the combined Zuhr and Asr prayers before spending the remainder of the day in prayer, Quran recitation, and reflection.

Pilgrims faced challenging weather conditions as temperatures in the holy sites were forecast to range between 44°C and 47°C. Saudi authorities issued heat warnings and urged worshippers to remain hydrated, use umbrellas for shade, and follow medical guidance to avoid heat-related illnesses.

Despite the extreme heat, pilgrims continued the rituals with determination and devotion, underscoring the enduring spiritual significance of Hajj for Muslims worldwide.

This year’s gathering once again highlighted the profound spiritual and communal dimensions of Hajj, bringing together millions of Muslims from diverse cultures and nationalities in a shared act of worship, reflection, and faith.
