The United States and France is expediting delivery of the much-needed military aid to Lebanon, Lebanese army commander Gen. Jean Kahwagi said.
“U.S. and French assistance will be delivered more consistently and will include qualitative weapons, rockets for aircraft, shells and night-combat gear,” Kahwagi said in remarks published Thursday by the local daily As-Safir.
He denied rumors that the Lebanese army lost ammunition in last month’s battle with extremist militants in the northeastern border town of Arsal.
“The army has sufficient ammunition to fight a long and harsh battle with the terrorists,” he stressed.
After protests by Arsal business owners Wednesday over the practice, Kahwagi said the Lebanese army had orders to prevent the entry of fuel to the outskirts of the town.
“The army won’t allow the entry of any supply truck or fuel to the outskirts of Arsal so militants would not benefit from them,” Kahwagi said.
