According to a statement by Libya's state-run oil company, National Oil Corporation, armed militants attacked al-Ghani oil field and killed eight guards, reports Associated Press.
The oil field is located near the town of Zalla, 470 miles southeast of the capital Tripoli.
Mohammed al-Harari, a spokesman from the oil company, stated he saw black smoke filled the sky above the facility.
Militants with ties to Daesh have so far seized twelve oil fields in Libya, forcing National Oil Corporation to declare force majeure, saying it could no longer ensure production at the facilities due to the deteriorating security situation.
